Slip On Ice Spikes Offer More TractionAs the world of footwear
expands, we have more and more options. This doesn’t just apply to shoes that
we wear for decoration, however. There are also specialized types of shoes and
footwear for getting more traction on ice and snow. Falls send thousands of
people to the emergency room every winter, and a serious tumble can result in
injuries that’ll keep you away from the job. Whether your work requires you to
be out and about in all weather, you’re an avid athlete who doesn’t want to stop
for ice and snow, or you just want to be sure that you have good footing,
slip on ice spikes
There are two basic types of over the shoe ice spikes. One is a chain or coil type snow traction device. These are available in a number of different sizes, and offer stable footing in icy conditions. However, in some cases, the coils can break, and these devices actually offer less stable footing on surfaces that aren’t slippery. That means that they’re most effective when the entire area is icy, rather than just an occasional patch. Floor surfaces that aren’t ice covered may be damaged by chain type over the shoe ice spikes. The other major type of slip on ice spikes are stud, bolt, or spike types. These are made to be used in deep snow and on really thick ice. They often strap on, and may have anything from a small stud to a long, sharp spike on the sole. Some use hex nuts to provide traction. Remember that these also damage surfaces that aren’t ice covered, and are for use in extremely rough conditions. Look for models that offer an arch that’s clear of spikes, for climbing ladders and steps. Also, be sure that any spike or bolt on the sole of your slip on ice spikes can easily be replaced if lost or if it becomes worn out. When you go to buy ice spikes
