Ice Grippers For Shoes Provide Safe Winter Walking

You might have recently heard about the rise in popularity of ice grippers footwear.  However, it’s not always obvious why these devices are so great.  If you’ve never taken a nasty spill on an icy patch, you might not understand why good traction is so important.  However, in the winter we see a lot more people in the emergency room because slippery surface have caused them to take a tumble.  Sprains, bruises, broken bones, and even deaths happen every year because of these falls.  Ice grippers for shoes allow you to inexpensively avoid the pain and cost of a injury, including lost work.  It’s easy and cheap to use these great ice grippers on your footwear, and a smart idea.

There are several different kinds of ice grippers for shoes available.  One type, ice spikes and studs, is best in very harsh conditions, where there’s a lot of snow and ice on the ground.  If it’s only a little bit slippery outside, they may not provide the sure footing you’re after.  If you live in a climate that sees deep snow or thick ice, however, these are a great way to get that extra grip.

If you don’t have winters that are quite harsh enough to call for stud and spike type ice grippers footwear, you may wish to choose a coil type instead.  These, like the above type, slip over your shoes.  However, they use a steel coil to give you the stability you need, rather than a spike, stud, or bolt.  The coil’s multiple faces provide a lot of surface area to dig in and keep you walking confidently.  This type of ice gripper for shoes can be purchased fairly cheaply, and they’re popular almost every casual walker.  It doesn’t matter who you are - if you need a little bit of extra help walking in the winter, you can enjoy ice gripper footwear.

Of course, it doesn’t matter which type of ice grippers for shoes you decide to go with if they aren’t high quality.  Look for a style that offers a snug fit without too many points of adjustment.  Straps and buckles can be uncomfortable and confusing when it’s cold out.  Many products are made from a rubber like elastomer that stays stretchy, even when cold.  That means that they’re quite easy to put on and get back off again.  Look for high quality components, solid construction, and good ergonomics.  Any springs, studs, or spikes should be easy to replace and come by.  Check at your local sporting goods or outdoor supplier to find out if you can get new ones.
